Historical note: The First Brigade of the 101st Airborne Division was sent to Vietnam in 1965. It was the third United States Army unit to arrive. In December of 1967, the remainder of the division was deployed to Bien Hoa, South Vietnam in Operation Eagle Thrust. The 101st was the only army division ever airlifted directly into combat. Hustad (b.1945) is a New Glarus, Wisconsin native. Hustad served in Vietnam as a member of the 101st Airborne Division and was wounded in action in 1969. After returning to civilian life, Hustad worked for IBM and later established a computer consulting firm. He also owns and operates a family farm in Monticello, Wisconsin where he lives with his wife, Jackie.
